Primary Spanish: discovering the language the fun way
Pronunciation, everyday vocabulary, greetings, ser and estar, first sentences: a gentle way into Spanish for ages 6 to 12.
Spanish is one of the most approachable languages for a young learner: pronunciation is regular and many words can be guessed. It makes an excellent first foreign language for building confidence.
What your child works on
- The alphabet and a pronunciation that follows fixed rules — what is written is what is said.
- Everyday vocabulary: colours, numbers, family, animals, food.
- Greeting people, introducing yourself, asking and giving your age.
- The verbs ser and estar, and why Spanish has two verbs for "to be".
- Building simple present-tense sentences, positive and negative.
How Twinko helps with this subject
A tutor that asks instead of answering
Prof Twinko releases help in stages: a nudge, then a lead, then the method. The full solution only comes as a last resort.
Lessons generated on the exact topic
You say what is not working, the age band and the difficulty. The lesson and its exercises are written for that request — not pulled from a catalogue.
XP that leads to a real reward
Every completed lesson earns XP, redeemable against the reward you set yourself. That is what brings the child back the next day.
Frequently asked questions
Is Spanish really easier than English?
For pronunciation and reading, yes: Spanish is written as it is spoken, unlike English. Conjugation, on the other hand, is richer — but it closely mirrors French, which helps a great deal.
What is the difference between ser and estar?
Ser is for what defines you lastingly ("soy alto", I am tall); estar for what is momentary or located in space ("estoy cansado", I am tired; "está en casa", he is at home). The distinction is learned through use, one sentence at a time.
Can you start with no background at all?
Yes. Twinko pitches the difficulty at the age and level you set, and the first lesson starts from zero if that is what is needed.
