Secondary Spanish: conjugation, comprehension and expression
Present, past tenses, ser and estar, first steps in the subjunctive, comprehension and writing: making progress in secondary Spanish.
At secondary level Spanish comes down mostly to conjugation and to a distinction between past tenses that other languages draw differently. Once those markers are in place, progress is fast.
What your child works on
- Conjugate in the present, including stem-changing and frequent irregular verbs.
- Tell the past tenses apart: pretérito indefinido for a one-off event, imperfecto for background or habit.
- Choose between ser and estar without hesitating, including where the adjective changes meaning.
- Approach the present subjunctive and the constructions that trigger it.
- Understand an authentic text and write a structured piece using connectors.

Lessons generated on the exact topic
You say what is not working, the age band and the difficulty. The lesson and its exercises are written for that request — not pulled from a catalogue.
XP that leads to a real reward
Every completed lesson earns XP, redeemable against the reward you set yourself. That is what brings the child back the next day.
Frequently asked questions
How do you choose between indefinido and imperfecto?
The indefinido tells what happened, an action that moves the story forward. The imperfecto describes the setting: the weather, what used to happen, how things were. A reliable test: if the action has a clear beginning and end, use the indefinido.
Is the Spanish subjunctive as hard as the French one?
It is used far more often, but its triggers are regular and can be listed. It responds very well to repeated practice on model sentences.
Can you practise speaking Spanish with Twinko?
Yes, conversation mode works in Spanish as in the site's other languages, correcting phrasing as the exchange goes.
