Secondary French: grammar, text analysis and essay writing

Difficult agreements, conjugation, figures of speech, text analysis and argument: what it takes to progress in secondary French, with a tutor available around the clock.

At secondary level an error-free paper is no longer enough: you have to analyse a text, defend an idea, build a paragraph that stands up. These are skills you train, not gifts you are born with.

What your child works on

  • Master the hard agreements: past participle, agreements inside the noun group, grammatical homophones.
  • Conjugate across every useful tense and mood, and pick the right tense within a narrative.
  • Analyse a text: identify the point of view, the tone, the figures of speech and the effect they aim for.
  • Build an argument: one idea per paragraph, an example that proves it, a transition that carries on.
  • Widen vocabulary and vary phrasing to get out of ready-made sentences.

How Twinko helps with this subject

A tutor that asks instead of answering

Prof Twinko releases help in stages: a nudge, then a lead, then the method. The full solution only comes as a last resort.

Lessons generated on the exact topic

You say what is not working, the age band and the difficulty. The lesson and its exercises are written for that request — not pulled from a catalogue.

XP that leads to a real reward

Every completed lesson earns XP, redeemable against the reward you set yourself. That is what brings the child back the next day.

Frequently asked questions

How do you improve at writing when ideas do not come?

A shortage of ideas is almost always a shortage of plan. Before writing, list three ideas and one example for each: the blank page disappears on its own. Twinko's tutor can run that stage by asking questions, without writing in the student's place.

Do past participle agreements ever sink in?

They do, through repeated practice on varied sentences — never through re-reading the rule. Ten sentences a day for two weeks durably changes the reflexes.

Does Twinko correct written work?

The tutor reads a text back, flags what does not work and explains why, but leaves the student to rewrite. It is the rewriting that produces progress, not receiving a finished correction.
